Candidates, Committees Give Election Views
Final Statements Are Presented To Voters
---
Candidates and sponsors of candidates and proposals issued last minute statements today. Polls will open at 6 a. m. and remain open until 7 p. m. tomorrow.

Dr. Louise A. Hector, president of the Board of Education, today urged the reelection of two incumbent candidates, Frederick C. Benner and Mrs. Christine Wilson.

Dr. Hector's statement follows: "I believe the best interests of the Berkeley School system will be served by the return to office of the two incumbents, Fr. Frederick C. Benner and Mrs. Christine Wilson. "Dr. Louise A. Hector"

GIVE AMERICANISM STAND
Americanism and the baring of Communists from using Berkeley school buildings as public meeting places will be the major issues at tomorrow's election when the citizenry cast their votes for two school directors, it was revealed today in a joint statement by Fitch Robertson and A. K. Sackett, independent candidates. The statement follows:

"The people of Berkeley will decide whether Communists will continue to use our public schools as meeting places for Communists, who believe in the overthrow of the government by force and violence.

"The majority members of the Board have for two years and are continuing to issue permits allowing subversive groups to hold public meetings. The local Board of Education is the only board in California that allows Communists to use our school buildings for meetings. It is high time that this practice stops.

"When we first filed our petitions we issued public statements that if we were elected we would refuse applications of the Communists for the use of our building as civic centers, in compliance with Section 6.750 of the State School Code."

GRENNAN'S STAND
Election of Fitch Robertson and A. K. Sackett to the Berkeley Board of Education was urged today in a public statement of John A. Grennan, attorney and grand knight of Berkeley Council No. 1499, Knights of Columbus. His statement follows: "At tomorrow's election let's end this controversy which has plagued the Berkeley Board of Education for almost two years.

"No right thinking true American would have tolerated and appeased the subversive element against the expressed wishes of the citizens as have the majority members of this board.

"When the Communists were taken off the State ballot last October it was expected that the Berkeley Board of Education would reverse its policy of allowing the Communists to use our school buildings for meeting places.

"I strongly urge the election of Fitch Robertson and A. K. Sackett. With a majority on the board opposed to Communism we will be assured of action and not alibis."
