J. Frank McDermott Dies at 86
ALBANY -- J. Frank Mc-
Dermott, 86, owner of the
Lewis-McDermott Meat Pack-
ers in Berkeley, died at his
home here Friday.
Mr. McDermott, who was
born in San Francisco, had
been in the meat business for
70 years. He was co-founder of
the firm in 1917 in El Cerrito,
later moving to Berkeley.
He was a member of Berke-
ley Council 1499, Knights of
Columbus; Berkeley Lodge
1002, Benevolent Protective
Order of Elks; the Berkeley
Chamber of Commerce and
the Western Meat Packers As-
sociation.
He is survived by his wife,
Frances; a daughter, Mrs.
Marie F. Thelen; and a son,
George F. McDermott; all of
Albany; three grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited at
8 p.m. tomorrow at the Ellis-
Oslon Mortuary, 727 San Pablo
Ave. A Requiem High Mass
will be said at St. Jerome's
Catholic Church, Currey and
Carmel Sts., Albany, at 9 a.m.
Tuesday. Burial will be in St.
Joseph's Mausoleum, San
Pablo.
